Summer Travel Tips
Are you planning on traveling during the summer? If you answered yes, then this post is for you. The Northside Blog is sharing some tips for anyone in our Richardson, TX apartment community that is planning on traveling during the summer months.
Prepare your car.
If you are traveling at all by car, this is important. Before you get on the road, check the condition of your car. This includes making sure your lights, wipers, and other parts of the car work and equipping your car with emergency supplies. Take your car to a trusted mechanic or do it yourself. Remember to check your oil, antifreeze, wiper fluid, tire pressure, engine, and brakes.
Plan your routes.
Having a plan for where you are going and when to be there will help you know how to adjust your schedule for getting there on time. Even if you’re going about your normal route, planning ahead can help you avoid driving pitfalls, such as speeding or not clearing your entire windshield. Wake up early so you can hit the road on time — and with caution. If you are using a GPS, be sure that it is up to date, so that you will be on the fastest and most direct route.
Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle. Include items such as a first aid kit, jumper cables, rain ponchos, flashlights and working batteries, drinking water, non-perishable snacks, a tarp in case you need to change a tire on wet roads, wipes for clean ups, and an extra blanket. DMV.org is a good resource for additional information about emergency kits.
Keep in Touch
As you travel, keep your friends or family updated on your progress in your journey. Use a car charger to keep your phone from dying. Let them know when you stop to eat, refuel, and take bathroom breaks. Let them know about any traffic or delays so they don’t worry. Keep them updated on your ETA (estimated time of arrival).
